Leadership Tomorrow’s Education Day inspired Karen Holt (LT Class of 2018) to take action, after learning about the Veteran’s Resource Center (VRC) while touring Coastline Community College’s Newport Beach campus. Karen’s LT experience connected her passion for continuing education with an opportunity to impact a community cause.
As a landscape designer and licensed contractor, she knows the value and importance of life-long learning, as well as continuing education in any field to stay current and to advance professionally. Karen nurtures her design expertise through community college art, horticulture and design classes.
When she visited the VRC, Karen learned about how it supports local veterans with meals, book grants, tutoring and other services to overcome educational obstacles. She also heard about opportunities to donate computer equipment, bikes and cars to the VRC.
Just six months after graduating from LT, Karen put her experience into action through the art of giving back. She became the VRC’s first car donor, navigating the new process through the Coastline Community College Foundation and earmarking the car sale proceeds for the educational benefits of Orange County’s veteran community.
