David Anastos works at Bayshore Partners providing market research analysis, negotiating lease terms, and providing occupancy cost modeling. He also works independently on personal investments and development projects. He has two boys in college and a daughter in 7th grade. Together his family loves spending time at their cabin in Wisconsin playing in the lake, water skiing, fishing, and paddling. Prior to coming to Orange County, David played for the Chicago Junior Hawks hockey team and owned a restaurant in Chicago named David’s Deli. If he could wave a wand and change one thing in his community, he would install light rail in Southern California.
Chris Fike considers himself a lifer at Irvine Ranch Water District where he is responsible for the maintenance of the stationary rotating equipment. Translation: he makes sure water comes out when you turn on your faucet and that it goes away when you flush! He is married to his best friend and has a 16 year old son and a 19 year old daughter. In his spare times he vacations outdoors and loves the desert. He also enjoys archery and hunts deer, bear, and elk. If he could wave a magic wand and change one thing about his community, he would incorporate the area he lives in in Orange County with one of the neighboring cities.
M’Lis Fox works for the City of Irvine as an Employment Coordinator for the Irvine Youth Employment Services. She is a native southern Californian and plans on living here for the rest of her life. She does, however, love to travel to warm climates and experience different cultures around the world. In fact, she once went hot air ballooning in Cappadocia, Turkey! In her spare time she likes to garden, spend time with family and friends, walk her dogs, and cook. If she could wave a wand and change one thing in her community, she would ensure that all young children are provided with a nurturing environment at home and in school.
Van Franco is the Director of Human Resources at the Newport Dunes Resort. Born in Brazil, he moved to the United States in 1988. He holds a MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hope International University, which aids in his lifelong goal of helping people. He desires to continually learn new things, have good friends he can count on, better society, assist people in need while asking nothing in return, and be able to look back on his life as meaningful and complete in the eyes of God and society. If he could wave a wand and change one thing in his community he would revamp the education system preparing today's children to become better futures citizens who are capable of respecting one another, adapting themselves to various forms of self-learning, and placing the word of God back in society and schools.
Brian Green is a Dentist in Newport Beach who loves his job, his wife, Jen, his 2 ½ year old daughter, Maya, and the little one on the way! Interesting facts about Brian are that he has framed all of the Where’s Waldo Puzzles, was a nut cracker in his 5th grade musical, won the Quintessence Award for student publishing, and won 4 state high school tennis championships. If he could wave a wand and change one thing in his community, he would make it more family friendly.
Shawntee Holland is a Program Coordinator for the City of Irvine overseeing Heritage Park Community Centers and programming. She loves what she does and is very passionate about working with the community to create a better place for everyone that calls Irvine and the surrounding area home. She is married to her first love; they met as freshman in high school, became best friends, dated for 8 years after high school, broke up and then five years later ran into each other at a restaurant. Within the year they were married, bought a house and adopted a dog! Family and friends mean the world to her and as long as they are around she is content. If she could wave a wand and change one thing in her community, she would make everyone assimilate, understanding and respecting one another’s cultures.
Jeff Lu works as a Lieutenant, Traffic Services Commander for the Newport Beach Police Department and has been with the department for 24 years. Born and raised in Orange County, Jeff has been married for 20 years to his wife, Dawn, and is the proud father of 2 daughters. He graduated from UC Irvine with a BS in Information and Computer Science. In his spare time he enjoys running, playing basketball, supporting his daughters in their activities, and relaxing in the Palm Desert area. He loves the outdoors and once hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, slept next to the Colorado River, and hiked back out the next day! If he could wave a wand and change one thing in his community, he would prevent all future traffic collisions from ever occurring, especially DUI / Impaired Driving collisions.
Mike Miles works for the City of Irvine allocating sports fields to youth groups, managing staff, and ensuring the parks and fields are safe for use. He enjoys what he does, but when he retires would like to own and operate a small winery. Although he has lived all over the world including Guam, Panama and Washington, D.C. his favorite city is San Francisco and he travels there annually with his wife and 2 teenage children. An interesting fact about Mike is that he once ate 7 ½ Big Macs to win a bet! If he could wave a wand and change one thing in his community, he would have more parents take an active role in their children’s education.
Kristin Miller works for California United Bank and hopes to one day be promoted to Marketing or Communications Director for a community bank. She is originally from Dallas, TX and she loves playing and watching sports. Her ultimate goal is to travel to all 50 states and 7 continents. If you’ve heard of ShowBiz Pizza, you may remember seeing 8-year old Kristin in one of their commercials! If she could wave a magic wand and change one thing in her community, she would hope for more support for our civil servants and military.
Rob Waite works as a Program Specialist at the Orange County Great Park in charge of field allocations and sports oriented special events. He strives to be a Recreation Manager working for a municipality within Orange County. When he’s not working his time is devoted to being outside surfing, hiking, swimming or going to the beach with his family (wife-Alison, kids-Nathanael 2 ½ Samantha 11 months). In addition, he and his family enjoy spending time in Kauai where he and his wife were engaged and married. If he could wave a wand and change one thing in his community, he would take all of the politics and bad parents out of youth sports so that the kids could focus on playing and having fun.
