Class of 2011 Graduation and Celebrating Leadership Awards

Leadership Tomorrow Graduation to honor
class members, outstanding leaders and feature guest speaker Evelyn Hart

On Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at the Back Bay Bistro at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort, all Leadership Tomorrow Alumni and friends of the program are welcome to join us at our Class of 2011 Leadership Tomorrow Graduation event. Held at the Back Bistro, the event will feature delicious hors d'oeuvres and a no-host bar.

In addition to Graduation, the event will feature our Celebrating Leadership awards. We invite everyone, whether graduates of Leadership Tomorrow, members of the community or local businesses, to attend. These awards will feature our Outstanding Community Leadership Award and the Excellence in Leadership Award.

This year Leadership Tomorrow honors two local volunteers who have made a difference in their communities. The Excellence in Leadership Award will be presented to the Honorable Steven D. Bromberg, Judge, Superior Court of California, County of Orange. The Outstanding Community Leadership Award will honor Ms. Maria Elena Avila, Owner, Avila’s El Ranchito restaurant in Costa Mesa.

The event will also feature a keynote speech from Evelyn Hart.Over the years, Evelyn has been busy doing volunteer work and serving a political life such as serving as Bike Trails supporter, PTA, Girl Scouts, Braille Board, YMCA Board, Park Beach Commissioner from 1972-1976, then being elected to the Newport Beach City Council in 1978. She served 16 years, 2 years as Mayor and 4 years as Mayor Pro Tem. During that time she was LAFCO commissioner, Orange County Airport Land Use Commissioner, President Orange County League of Cities, State League Director 3 years and Orange County Sanitation Director. Currently, Evelyn is on the Youth Employment Services Board (YES) and chairs their advisory committee; Someone Cares Soup Kitchen Board, Airfair Board, Hoag Hospital Auxiliary, the OASIS Senior Citizens Board, and more. Evelyn was appointed Citizen of the Year for the City of Newport Beach in 2007 and a California Senate Woman of the Year in 2008. In 2010, Newport Beach named the OASIS Event Center for Evelyn.
